JUDGE’S REMARKS. The judge. Mr F. .1. Ricketts, commenting on the Greyniouth Band’s performance in "Kigolclb?.” said: .Generally speaking, this was a really good opening performance, and set a good standard for the hands which followed. Balance and blend we tv.* quite good, and intonation generally left little to find fault with. The opening movement was nice and bright, and the first euphonium sale which followed was artistically played. The horn cadenza leading into the ever popular “La Donna e mobile." taken by tho tenor horn was a trifle ragged, and the actual solo lacked the essential sparkle which is always associated with it. There non* also slight traces of faulty intonation in places, and dotted notes throughout. Tho selections were not treated correctly, in almost every ease the various players turning them with the succeeding note- into triplets. The linale was clean and bright, but inclined pi heaviness.
The various hands performed generally iu a very meritorious manner for B. Grade hands, and such faults a., ii-italic associated vith all amateur hands, viz., faulty intonation, lack of attention to detail, particularly in re-siv-et of time rabies, and failure to grasp the spirit of the work, the interpretation suffering in consequence.
B. BASS SO Li i. The B. B. flat bass solo resulted : L. Eogo (Dunedini DA. 1 . -I. Collitij (Wanganui) D 3. 2: C. S. Hansen (Wools!on) and J. Hughes (Woolslum 91. 3.
