A suit- committee of Cabinet which is devising a scheme for the rehabilitation of sufferers fiom the recent disastrous tires, has compiled a list of buildings destroyed. These for the most part are settlers’ and workers’ homes and number about 550. At lca’st three hundred will have to he rebuilt. The Committee is desirous of having as many as possible of these reconstructed before the winter sets in properly, so that Residents of the burnt out areas may he comfortably re-established during the cold, wet weather. The Committee waited on the Lord Mayor, and offered to place at his disposal experts and architects from the Government Department to advise upon the design of new buildings required. Officers connected with land, forestry and other Departments will also he made available to assist the Committee in any capacity they are able.
