The bowls carnival was continued in fine cool weather when the first and second rounds ot the single-handed championship of Australasia was played. The greens were heavy as the result of the overnight rain. The following is to-day’s play : Melbourne Orchard. Vic. Casey anil A. Parsons arc the only New Zealanders who will compete in to-morrow s rounds. Farrow was eliminated h.v n mediocre New South Wales player, Pickard. Farrow could not adapt himself to the heavy conditions of the green and his opponent had established a commanding lead before the New Zealander had found his game.

Orchard and Parsons, particularly! the latter, played excellent howls. Parsons. on his form to-day. is anticipated to he one the finalists, lie won both his matches by 23 to 5. In each case he struck form from the first head and never left the issue in doubt. Tn the second round he defeated Colqulmon, a solid Svdney howler. Richard's margin of success was not nearly so decisive as yesterday. He was five up in the first round and six in the second. In the second round the New Zealander was off colour in the early heads and liis opponent led hv 8-1. Orchard from this stage played finely anil brought off some brilliant shots winning by 22 in Ui.

Gustafson, who holds the title, continued in good form and is now Parsons’ most formidable opponent, being equally at home on slow or fast greens. One hundred anil tewnty-eight now remain in the competition and by the ond of to-morrow’s play it is expected U’.c number will he reduced to sixteen.
