WESTLAND LICENSING COMMITTEE
Nominations for the Westland Licensing Committee close on Sal unlay. There have been report* runout i.f a probable contest, I.iii the Alliance and Labour party Ix-ing in the field with candidates. As a, contested election would mean an expenditure of between £4OO and £509, ami a* the cost would lull on the local bodies, representatives of the latter have been anxious to see matters arranged without causing an election. Aciording I.) latest reports the efforts have been successful thanks to the consideration shown h.v the Alliance representatives, and Air F. AlcGregor, a sitting member. the Alliance has decided. it is understood, not to nominate any representative candidates, hut the Labour Party will nominate .Messrs Goodall and Kent of Greymouth. The Commitlee will hr completed by three of the sitting members, .Messrs Kyle and Bignell of Greymouth, and Mr C. .1. Nightingale of Hokitika. Air AlcGregor has withdrawn to save the local bodies tho cost of an election.
