The Australian Press Association, learns on the highest authority total a good deal of intriguing is in progress behind the scenes preparatory to the meeting on February 2-ltli tor the election of the test match selection committee. For some time there has been a tug of war between representatives of the northern and southern counties, but Yorkshire is not now acting in concert with Lancashire. Ihe former agreed to support Afarvlebone’s view of things. Alarylebone will exercise a bloc of six votes out of sixteen on AVcdncsdiiy and expects to obtain sufficient . support out of ten county representatives to carry its proposals, which will be the nomination of a. selection committee consisting of Gilligau, Daniel and Perrin. This will he empowered to co-operate with advisers, hut it is understood that no professionals, not even Hobbs, will be called on. Carr will be a co-operator as captain, but will need re-election to the captaincy each match. T.aveson-Gower will probably be nominated in a purely secretarial capacity. Alarylebone is strongly opposed to Lancashire's desne cor the co-operation of Higson, Lancashire’s treasurer, as the special representative of the northern counties, declaring Carr will sufficiently represent tlu> north. It is learned that attempts arc being made to find places on the selection committee for Mnoi.nren and \\ arnei. The former, will, probably net be considered. while Alarylebone opposes AVanier on the ground of his connection with the press.
