NEW RECORD BY ROSE. MASTER TON, February 21. At the electric light athletic meeting on Saturday night, R. A. Rose established fresh Australian figures for the one mile Hat. covering the journey in 1 mins 17 3-bsees. Four watches agreed on this time, but two others made it -LIS 1-5, and, in the meantime a record will be applied tor on the latter figures. The conditions were ideal, except for a slight, dew. Oaklev was successful in lowering the Australasian uupaecd grass track cycle record, his time living 12mins i ! 2-5 secs. U.S.A. ATHLETES. DUNEDIN. February 21. A heavy southerly was in evidence on Saturday, but the big crowd that went to the Caledonian Ground were thoroughly convinced that Jackson Scholz and Lloyd Halm, the American athletes, are brilliant runners. Tile former showed a phenomenal burst of speed over the last half of the 220 yards ami was an easy winner. Following are the results of the events in which the visitors competed : 100 Yards. —(i. Cox (13.1yds) 1. C. 11. Dull' ('llyds) 2, R. W. Lander (10 yds) 3. Scholz found the handicap beyond him and was beaten into filth place in his heat. Time 0 3-ssocs. 220 Yards.—Seliolc. (scr) 1, G. L. McQueen (15yds) 2. C. K. Dull' (10yds) I). When the pistol went, Sclmlz stood on the mark and the others were recalled. They rose to a beautiful start the second time, and with half the journey gone, Scholz looked hopelessly out of it. He electrified the crowd, however, with a terrific sprint, and had the race won fifty yards from home. The time was 21 2-ssees.

110 Yards.—Halm (scr) 1, C. Olsen Lloyds) 2, R. W. Lander (20yds) 3. There were only four starters, but the finish was the best, of the day. Hahn caught Olsen half-way, but the latter made him travel every yard alter that, and was beaten by a yard. The time was 52 sees. One .Mile. Halm (scr) 1. F. Rolfo (125yds) 2.' E. Gray (155yds) 3. The American ran a perfectly judged race, and went the front about 200 yards from home. He finished very strongly anil won by ten yards. Brown, the local champion, was not in form, hut, apart from that, the handieapper was not taking any risks with him. The time Mas -1.37 -1-5.
