THE DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.

[ey TEi.EciiArit—per press association.] DUNEDIN, February 20. A thousand excursionists came to the Exhibition yesterday by special train from Waskatea district in Southland and spent a memorable day in spite of the rain which fell during the afternoon, seeing as much as they could in the time at their disposal at the great Exhibition. The attendance this morning stood at 1.000.499. There is a noticeable influx of visitors to the city in anticipation of the big brass and pipe bands contest which begins this afternoon’. Forty-eight hands from all parts of New Zealand are competing, justifying the claim that it will be the biggest contest of its kind yet held in New Zealand. The hands should make a good showing when they muster in the oetagen at 1 o’clock. They will march through the city to the Exhibition by way of the new highway and then proceed with the B- Grade Quickstep competition for which 1-1 bands have entered. Guests entertained by the directors yesterday included representatives of the Navy League Conference, which was held in Dunedin.
