DOMINION SETTLEMENT

FIRST CONFERENCE OF ASSOCIATION. [nv TELEGRAPH —PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON. Kcbruary 17. At the liri-t conference of the Dominion Settlement Association the following resolution was carried recording: “(latitude and indebtedness to the Motherland and a desire to he of service in assisting her to solve her population problems. The coidorence believes New Zealand’s interests as linked up with those ol the British Empire and that its defence, prosperity ami progress cannot be maintained unless a steadily increasing How of migration is maintained Irons among our own kith and kin.”

It was decided the Association's objects should include co-operation with the New Zealand Migration Department in the Homeland and the New Zealand Federation of Public Bodies interested in migration, so as to secure their co-oneration in the preparation of schemes for the closer settlement of the Dominion and for the assimilation of immigrants into the community, the supplementing and co-ordination of the efforts of all societies that have for their object the peopling of the Dominion by those of the British rac-e from within the hounds of the Empire. The Association should act generally in an advisory capacity to constituent orgnni- 1 satiuiis and seek to extend publicity and collect all useful information affecting migration and the possibilities of the Dominion for further settlement. It should also help the adoption of sound privately 'financed schemes for establishing immigrants in New Zealand and co-operate with other similar organisations elsewhere in the Empire and make such representations as seem necessary for further settlement.
