GREAT CORRUPTION ALLEGED. ENQUIRY ASKED FOR. [Australia & N.Z. Gable Association. 1 t&eceived this day at 8 a.m.) WASHINGTON. February 18. Representative Rritten has introduced a resolution asking for the appropriation of fifty thousand dollars to conduct a Congressional investigation into the activities of the Anti-Saloon League, charging that body with:— Having openly and flagrantly violated the Corrupt Practices Act in various states; also other Federal laws. That the League attempted to influence judicial appointments and attempted to influence the President in the appointment of heads of Governmental Departments.
That it exercised an insidious influence on the prohibition unit of the Tiensurv Department. That it expended large sums i n the control of elections. That it is a secret organisation. That it was recently disclosed that Justice of the State Supreme Court and the Attorney-General have long Fen on the payroll of the League. Senator Rritten charges the League that it paid the election campaign <xpenses of the Volstead Act and that high officials of the League have been sent to penitentiaries for collecting large sums of money under false pretences. The resolution concludes by point) ig out that the welfare of the State and nation are jeopardised.
