It was resolved to ask the Railway Department to continue the Monday train from Hokitika to Christchurch to cover the interval of time up to tho Easter period. About five Mondays were involved. The question of tho excursion for school children to Dunedin was .mentioned and it was deeide'd to convene a meeting of school committeemen and teachers at Hokitika on the 20tli inst. at 11 a.m., to discuss the matter. It is Imped to have all possible information available with a view to affording senior children the opportunity of \ travelling in parties to the Exhibition. J Reference was made to the bridges on the Ala in South Road, and the probable delay there would be unless the district bestirred itself in the matter. A rough estimate of the cost of the four or five principal bridges involved was £IO,OOO and the suggestion was made that the district should find £2,500 of the amount, providing the Highways Board erected the bridges in question within two years. It was mentioned that of the £2,500, the AA’estlaml County should find £1,500 by loan; the Hokitika Borough £SOO by loan, and the balance £SOO, by contributions from garage and motor owners and hotel proprietors. A County loan of £1.500 spread over 15 years at 0 per cent would cost £l4B per annum to repay, including interest. A Borough loan of £SOO similarly would cost £4(5 (is fid per annum. The proposal was approved very generally and it was decided to submit it to a public meeting on March 2nd when representatives will he invited to attend covering local bodies and all parties interested. The meeting concluded at 5.30.
