THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Too Alien Edcc-atiox. AYe had last week a paean from the .Minister of Education. The new High School furnished him with his text. He- assured us that we were, or if we were not we mi-.-ht be. the best educated nation on this green earth. AYe are certainly getting along, and. while •ertuiu caveats- should be entered against Sir James Parr’s enthusiasms, the young New Zealander is oil a very good wicket; but- where are we going? when every woman plays Bach and Alozart. and appreciates the niceties in Shakespeare, who will wash our clothes? And when every Dick is a master of quadratics, and possesses a working knowledge of economics, who will lift our dust or man the abattoirs? Sir James will not tell us. He just goes on, and everyone just goes on working the educational idea for all it is worth. It is very queer. The health-.- troubles that agitate every white land, and some yellow and chocolate lands, nr? all occasioned by the unsleeping resolution to educate everybody. AA’e are well on the way with the job, and we seem to be in some sort of soup. —Rev. J. J. North.
