PROMOTIONS AND TRANSFERS,

It is nnuouncetl that the following police changes and transfers have been made in consequence of the retirement of Superintendent McKinnon at Christchurch, and for general departmental reasons.
Inspector E. Kales, of Auckland, has been promoted to be Superintendent in charge of the Christchurch District. Inspector J. Mdlveney has been transferred from Wanganui to Auckland to replace Inspector Kales, fie will have immediate charge ol Auckland City and suburbs, under the direction of the Superintendent there. Inspector S. Till has been transferred from Christchurch to the Wanganui District. Inspector A*. Cameron has been transferred from Gisborne to Christchurch and will take immediate charge of the city and suburbs there. Inspector W. Eccles has been transferred from Grevmouth to Gisborne for health reasons.
Inspector D. C. Fraser has been transferred from Napier to Grevmouth. Inspector D. J. Cummings, transferred from Wellington to Napier. Sub-Inspector S. Rawle, of Auckland, is promoted to be Inspector and transferred to Wellington where be takes up immediate control ol the city and suburbs under the Superintendent. Senior-Sergeant F. Lewin, of Christchurch, is promoted to Snb-Tnspector and transferred to Auckland. Senior-Sergeant H. Martin, of Mt. Cook. Wellington, has been transferred to Christchurch central station. Sergeant C'. H. Lennon, of Lawrence, is promoted to Senior-Sergeant and j transferred to Wellington. Constable G. AY. Gow, ol Wellington, is promoted to Sergeant. Detective John Walsh, of AYellington. is transferred to Wanganui, in charge of the detective office there. Detective Le Settr is transferred from Timaru to Invercargill. Acting-Detective R. .1. Walker is transferred to Timaru. having been promoted to the detective division. The authority exercised for some time past by Superintendents will now cense, ns the tentative arrangement recently in force is no longer necessary, In order that the experience gained in both the detective and uniform brandies of the services shall be available for the benefit of the public, the Inspectors at Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have been selected on account of their experience of both branches of the service. Their knowledge of detective work will he of great benefit in tile centres, of population, where Inspectors have immediate control of the detective branch.
