Inquiries were made at once and it was found that £75. made up mostly of five and ten pound notes, was missing from the room of John Milne, of Auckland, and CTO in notes from the room occupied hv an English visitor, TT. Barr, who also lost several English £1 notes and a watch. A further sum of £lO in notes was missing from the room of another guest Edward Sheetfiold. Mrs John Milne, of Auckland, was aroused about 2.40 by a slight noise, Imt. thinking it was the night porter in the adjacent, corridor, she thought no more of the matter until the alarm was given later. It was found that six or seven gallons of petrol had been removed from a ear belonging to M. A. Owing to the heavy rain no tracks of feet or wheels could be discovered this morning, but, from the circumstances, it 'scorns that the burglrv must have been the work of one or more men in a motor car.
