UNDER THE MARBLE ARCH.
.MOTORIST WHO DID NOT KNOW. LONDON, December 3. A perky little motor-car was driven right through the Marble Arch, Hyde Park, on Saturday afternon, in clear weather. Not a very astonishing piece of news to those who don’t know. But the many Londoners who saw it happen stood aghast. Indeed they appeared to have been almost petrified. Traffic policemen, recovering their senses, blinked ; perhaps they pinched themselves. The cosntnble into whom the car nearly ran nulled himself together. and with great presence of mind raised a forbidding hand iti a way that spelt “Never!” Did he fumble for his notebook? Not for an instant. All that mattered was that the Exclusive Way must remain exclusive. The driver of the car blinked. His wife blinked. Their Sealyham looked perplexed. “Back!” said the official hand. Still nu.'v'led. but not until a full minute had passed, the driver hacked through the arch and went hv the road he must take. Perhaps now he knows that the King and Queen and only a very few others have the privilege of passing the Marble Arch gates.
