Addressing the "Gratui Jury this morning Judge Adams said he regretted the calendar was fairly heavy, no fewer than seven cases relating to sexual offences. The increase of these offences in recent years was a matter for the greatest concern to the whole community. AN AUCKLAND CASE. AUCKLAND, February 9. At the Supreme Court Nathan Morris appeared on two charges of indecent assault on tin old woman and one of common assault. Counsel for the accused said that as the woman was unable to appear he had arranged with tl e crown to plead guilty to common assault if the other two charges were withdrawn. His Honor said it was reasoable and sentenced accused to come tip for sentence when called upon for common nsunilt. Accused is to he placed on his ■.hip at Dunedin. [Morris was a steward on the American freighter West Henshaw and was charged at the Magistrate’s Court on January 26 with committing rape on an old woma"!i who is in the last stages of senile decay.]
