FURTHER CHARGES I.IKELV. AUCKLAND, Feb. 8. Bound together by handcuffs which encircled their wrists, Charles Waldo and Samuel Rattray, the two prisoners who have gained so much notricty by their sensational escape from the Prison Camp at Rangitoto on Tuesday last, and who were arrested at Cowes Bay on Saturday morning, walked through a strong fine of constables from the ante-room to tile dock at the Police Court this morning each lioing charged that, being deemed incorrigible rogues, they did escapes from Rangitoto before the expiration of their sentence. After the facts relating to the escape had been detailed to Air J. W. Poynton, S.AI., by Sergt. (.'Swell, the Alagistrate inquired of both men whether they desired to say anything. Beyond stating they wanted to he. tried by the Alagistrate in preference to going before the Supreme Court, neither had anything to say. “Its a very serious offence, escaping and putting the country to an enormous expomrfc, besides showing a bad example' to the other prisoners,” said the Alagistrate. Sergt. Calwell then asked that the accused .should be remanded until Alonday next for sentence, as other charges would probably be brought against them. A remand was granted.
