A SERIOUS DISCOVERY. MELBOURNE. Feb. 0.
Investigation based on the figures of bacteriological tests supplied by the Director of Milk Supplies, shows that more than ball of Melliourne’s milk, or more than two-thirds according to the standards adopted in New York, is unfit for human consumption. The milk supplied to the metropolitan hospitals falls very far short of fulfilling the conditions which expert medical opinion deems necessary. FIRES STILL RAGING. . SYDNEY, February 7. A mighty wave of flame is sweeping over the forest country, and in the Tunmt and Wagga districts. Volunteers are making great efforts to cheek tlie flames; but the task is gigantic and in some parts the men had to flee for their lives. The fire lias reached the great Yulumn State Forest, which iiin perilled.
