Lovelock was charged in the Onehunga Police Court with drunkenness. Sergt. Cruickshank said that the police found the defendant drunk on Friday night, and later they learned that lie had been concerned in the motor smash. Lovelock told the Court that about 9 o’clock on Friday evening, Charles Vincent, whom he knew only by sight, asked him to go for a drive in a motor oar. They started from Victoria St. in the city, and Vincent said that they might go as far as Pakapura. When the defendant got in the car, he found some drink and the both had some “spots.” EL? remembered being thrown from tbc car when the accident occurred, but could remember no more. Ho was a barman by occupation, but be was at present out of work. Lovelock had a deep cut on the right side of his face, and he gave his address as 10. Dominion Road. Auckland. Be was convicted and fined Ifts on the charge of drunkenness. The inquest touching the death of Leonard Charles Vincent, was opened before Mr F. Tv. Hunt. S.M. Deceased was tt .single man, and would have been 22 years of age next month. He was a motor tractor driver, employed by the” Avondale Borough Council. Evidence of identification was taken, and the inquest, was adjourned sine die. Charles Vincent, who was killed in the Onehunga collision, resided at Avondale. His father said that he did not know whose car his son was driving. His own ear was at home. The car used was owned by Chits. Simpson, Land Agent, of Auckland, It was parked in Elliott Street at 8.30 P.m. It- disappeared before 10.10 p.lll. It was a new car, and was not insured.

Lovelock .stated that Vincent, who was a stranger to him. asked him to go for a ride to Papakurn, and they were on their way there when the accident happened.
