IN THE COMMONS. LONDON, February 3.
Mr H. Dalton has tabled a question in the House of Commons as follows: “ As the yearly expenditure on bunting is ten minions, and, in view of the serious condition of the finances, has the Chancellor considered the possibility of additional revenue from a luxury tax on such snort?” The Executive of the Carmarthen Liberal Association has decided to ask c 'r Alfred Mond to resign.
The Conservatives will probably ask ir Alfred Mond to he their representative at the bye-election. LONDON, Febraury 4.
The debate on the King’s Speech in the House of Commons was continued. Mr Wheatley, the Glasgow Labourite, approved of tile coni subsidy and electricity scheme, hut lie was of the opinion that the latter will not solve the unemployment problem. Criticism, was renewed in other quarters on the terms of the Anglo-Italian debt settlement, but the Liberals have now decided not to include this in the amendment which they intend to move, which will deal with the question of the Government’s alleged unsatisfactory education policy. Mr Newton-Moore. Captain Eden. Mr W. P. C. Greenwood, Lieut.-Colonel Gault. Lord Apslev. Sir A. ShirleyBenn, and Major Astor (all Conservatives') tabled an amendment regretting that the King’s Speech does not indicate wliat. steps are contemplated to obtain closer co-operation with the object of securing a common foreign policy. to which the Dominions can subscribe while retaining their own freedom of action for each entity in its national affairs.
