TURKISH ATROCITIES

THE MOSUL HORRORS

[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.!

LONDON, February 4

Atrocities incredible in any part of the globe in the twentieth century are described hv Mr Martin Donohoe in continuing his narrative in the “ Daily Chronicle.” He quotes eye-witnesses. One, lshi Essaq. a married woman, twenty years of age, said: "I was seized at Baijo with the rest of the villagers. The Turks took me and my sister and other women into the house of the head man of the village. There three soldiers seized me and tore off my clothes. Each assaulted me. My sister was similarly treated in the same room. On the second day of the march the Turks killed 20 old men and women because they were no longer able to walk. On the third day the soldiers seized four women who resisted violently. Thereupon the soldiers tore off my clothes and did revolting things. When the women cried, ‘Oh God, have pity on me!’ the Turks jeered. Three of the women were beaten until they died. The fourth was cut down unconscious. She had been treated so shamefully that she became insane.” lshi lssaq gave the names. Mikhail Poles, a peasant lad, said:— ” I was deported with the rest of the village. My mother was unable to walk and site fell. One of the soldiers called her a Christian dog, and struck her with a rifle butt. He then picked up a big stone and struck her twice. When he was satisfied that she was dead, he spat on her body. 1 fell on mv mother’s corpse. The soldiers prodded me with their bayonets.”
