Among tbe places which henefitted when the allocation of these permits was made were Waimnrino and Motueka. but. so far. neither of these localities Inis its property in a condition fit to race on. In consequence, these two permits would have gone unused during the current season were they not lent to other clubs. The Ministcr-iii-f'harge of Racing Permits. Hon Air Bollard, and the President of the New Zealand Racing Conference. Sir George Clifford, have met in conference on the subject. To-day the Minister announced that it had been decided that the permits should be lent to the W averley and Nelson clubs. SUPREME COURT SENTENCES. TIMARU, February I. At the Supreme Court to-day, Stanley Gilbert Taylor was sentenced by fustico Adams to eighteen months hard labour for breaking, entering and theft. George Spencer Pearsc. who is now serving a term of three years' reformative treatment, was sentenced to a further term of three years for breaking, entering and theft, the sentence to tie concurrent with the present term. On a charge of arson, Pcarse, was sentenced to reformative treatment for five years, to take effect at the expiry of his present sentence. FIREMAN FINED £75. AUCKLAND, Felv •!. Robert Poole, a fireman on the Tofua, was fined seventy-five pounds for assisting three Chinamen unlawfully to land in New Zealand. The accused had the Chinese in a store room near the boiler, hut they were discovered by a ship’s engineer.
