“THREE AVLSE FOOLS” AND “THE PREHISTOR IC lIAYSEEDS”—'TONIGHT.
King Vidor is one of those progressive you no; directors who lias established a new precedent. 11l writing the screen version of “Three Wise Fools,” which comes to the Princess Theatre, to-night, the matter came up of planning an escape from prison. This part, of course, was not handled in the stage production. Vidor went hack into criminal history and dug up one of the most sensational escapes on record. The escape, a fairly recent one. from the California State Prison, Folsom, occurred fn .May. 1920. Four prisoners rushed a locomotive in the prison yard, aliened the throttle and crashed their way out of the grounds into open country. Vidor secured ail the newspaper clippings of this sensational escape a*nd has followed them closely in making the picture. A flashback in (lie picture shows the three old men as they were in the time of their youth when they were all in love with the same girl. The resemblance between the pictures of Claude GilMugwater in his youth and Craig Biddle is quite startling; so much so, in fact, that the pictures of (Jillingwater are thought to he costume pictures of Biddle himself. Because of this happy coincidence. Piddle plays the part of the youthful Findley, the role which Oillingwater has created on the stage and is now transferring to tile screen. Creighton Hale, well known youthful .screen actor, plays the youthful representation of William H. Crane, and Raymond Hatton, renowned character actor, is seen as the youthhil Alec Francis. The second star picture is Beaumont Smith’s great Australian production •‘The Prehistoric Hayseeds,” a big laugh from start to finish. On Friday a Paramount picture “A Story Without a Name” starring Agnes Ayres and Antonio Moreno. On Saturday another Paramount starring Estelle Taylor and Antonio Morneo in “Tiger Hove.”
