THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
I’.npkh Fascism. The avowed noliey ot the Fascists to trample on freedom is being carried into effect rapidly. Last. November they succeeded in silencing the "Corriere della Sera." the greatest newspaper in Italy, tlic majority of the shareholders yielding to the menaces of the Fascist leaders and denouncing tie contraci under which. Senator Luigi Albcrtini controlled the journal. His freedom of comment, though always expressed with, a moderation that was admirable, angered the rulers of modern Italy, and the shareholders had to elioo.se between dismissing the man who had made the " Corriero ’■ famous or having the paper suspended for an indefinite period. They chose to obey the Fascist order and thus ended a connection that had made the Milanese journal one of the most inHiienlial in Europe. -—" Lyttelton Times."
