Tilt: Westland A. and P. Association is busy preparing for its twentieth annual show to he held in a month’s time—on Friday. February lf)th. Last year it will be recalled, the show had to he abandoned owing to the prevalance of an epidemic. On this occasion it is to he hoped no untoward event will menace the show, and that under pleasanter circumstances it will pass of successfully. The measure of the success rests with the people themselves. 'flic show dejiemls in the main in local patronage both in exhibits and public attendance It is customary for a fair percentage of exhibits to come from outside, and they are more or less something of a feature in the general display. To build up a more complete whole, good support is needed locally, and it behoves all who can lo assist. The first appeal must lie to those with stock and other exhibits for display. The district hos prided it.-elf in the past on its products in dairying produce, and there should be many available exhibits of stock from tliat quarter. The present season has not been 100 favourable for growth, hut the careful farmer should have no difficulty in making up many exhibits of farm produce. In the matter of home production there should be no lack of entries. The winter show at Kokatahi has evidenced what can he done so well in that direction, and in a general display here with' the wider competition possible, there should he n feature in the classes for home produce. If the show is well supported in the classes just referred to, it
means also, a wider interest in the Inhibition generally, and that, is the class of advertising so much desired, something that will bring entries and more entries. With a month now to prepare stock and nt'special exhibits we hope the farmers of the district will become busy and by ready co-operation do all they can to assure the success of tlie Show. It is interesting to note that the coming Show counts as tbe twentieth display. Another year and the Association will reach its majority. The Association will become ; greater asset to the district (be more it can promote these annual shows as a means of seeking to improve the stock and production in the district. •Shows are a material aid to that end. and on that it is for the settlors to seek to help themselves by helping to make tile best display possible at the forthcoming Show in the effort to advance Westland in matters pastoral and agricultural.
