The model! trend towards jazz and general pleasures was exemplified m the .Magistrate’s Court on Saturday morning, when a, young girl, age.d li. who had been caught in the maelstrom of the jazz age. was brought before Mr ('. H. Orr-Walkcr. S.M., on a charge of theft. In committing her
to one year’s probation, the magistrate considered it a ease tor the name to he suppressed. Acting-Chief Detective Walsh said that, the girl obtained employment at the Terminus Hotel, but Icl t the same dav as she was not suitable. When leaving she took a powder puff, some scent, and a dress, the property of two girls whose room she shared, rdie had never Ikmmi in trouble Indore, and came from a. most respectable home. There was no need for her to earn her own living, and it was not likely that she would commit such an offence again. Mr J. K. B- Stevenson. who appeared for the girl, stated that defendant had come under the sway ol too much pleasure. Mrs Glover, the Salvation Army visiting officer, had _ remarked that the home ol the girl s parents was one of the most beautiful she mid ever visited. The girl had the dancing craze, and had simply gone m for gaieties and pleasures. Standing beside the Salvation Army officer, the young girl hung her head and seemed' to realise her position
acutely. , The magistrate said that it was evident that a love of dancing bad led her astray apparently. A girl cumin .n, to dances unless she is as well dressed us the other girls.
