Another development has arisen out of the position created by the Audit Department’s tag to the Dannevirke Power Board’s balance sheet. Mr .t W. Ellingham, Chairman of the Dannevirke County Council and the County representative on the Board whose position was in question has resigned the Chairmanship position of the County Council in consequence of toe tag affecting him, hut is seeking reelection. CROSSWORD PUZZLES NOT ILLEGAL.

Thai, the solving of a crossword puzzle entails a certain degree of skill and ability,, and that the competition advertised by the “Poverty Bay Heraid” in ioniior-tinn with such a puzzle, was therefore, not illegal, was the judgment given hv Air Levvy, S.U.. at the Magistrate's Court, in the case wherein the Herald Coy. was charged 'nth publishing an advertisement which made it appear that certain premises- in Gisborne wore used for the purposes of taking part in a scheme whereby the prizes' wore gained hv chance.

TEACHERS’ SUMMER .SCHOOL. : CAMBRIDGE. January 26. Teachers attending (lie summci -school discussed the school in all if: aspects. The whole hotly ol teacher.* representative of practically all tin provinces, was unanimous and enLhusiaslie concerning the immeasurable value ol the highly instructive and i a! tural course. All stated they would ■-.<> hack to their schools with a broader vision of the value of their work. All showed an earnest desire to have the movement continued and to that end the teachers will return to their homes as missionaries. It was felt tlial (ho aim of the school had been realized, not the least result being the stimulation of public interest in education. Milner (rector of M'aiknto Hoys’ High School) was unanimously appointed president ol the next school.
