When one considers that most of tho patients of the Hokitika Mental Hospital have only this one opportunity every year of shaking off tho daily round of duty, and of seeing other views than the familiar one of the hospital grounds, it will bo realised that to them variety is charming and no doubt this feeling accounted fol' the screams of delight and shouts of laughter which proceeded from the arena of festivities, where nurses and patients vied with one another in races and games, until the time arrived when the delightful viands provided by a generous public, could bo sampled. In the afternoon the three lorrys filled with a happy throng wended their way to Hokitika Gorge, where afternoon tea greeted them. Thus the day wore on, and when tho evening same, a tired, hut happy company found their way way homo again.
