LONDON. November 12. On the advice of the Traction UseAssociation many traction-engine owners are fitting their machines with rubber tyres, to prevent damage to the roads." The association lias given the advice to its members at the request of the Ministry of Transport. A Ministry official said to a reporter yesterday that as their negotiations with the" association had been amicable they did not wish to disclose figures showing how much damago tractionengines did to the roads. He admitted, however, that the damage was considerable, and stated that in the summer, when tar macadam and asphalt are soft, these machines often carry a great part of a road surface from one parish into another.
He added that if the Ministry’s request is not carried out statutory powers will be enforced.
