DISTRICT RACING COMMITEE
AFEETING AT Git FALMOUTH.
A meeting of the District Racing Committee was held at, the office of tiie Greymouth Jockey Club last evening. The meeting was a protracted one, commencing at 7.30 and lasting till nearly 12.30. There were present; .Messrs T. K. Coates (Chairman), Kettle, •Evans, Pcrotti, Doogan, Parlilt. McGregor, and Roaclic. A motion of condolence to the members of the family of the late AH Gillies was passed. The Nelson programme for the A Birch mooting was approved. The application of C. AA’asley for a jockey’s license was recommended. The programme of the Takaka Club for a lion-totalisator meeting on February 2nd. was approved. The AVcstport programme for March 20tli. and 22nd. was approved. The programme for the T\unir,rn Racing Club for Easter Monday was approved; also the programme of the AVestland Racing Club for Faster AA’ednosday.
Fines imposed at the race mooting at Hokitika on jockeys were approved. The Racocour.se Inspector notified one person had been warned off racecourses in connection with the Hokitika mecti nf?The. Grey moil lb Club notified no fines wore imposed at the Now Year meeting. RFEFTON DTSQI7A LJFICA TTONS. The Recfton Jockey Club reported fines and disqualifications in connection with the late meeting. Fines imposed were approved. The mooting then proceeded to consider the disqualification of five riders in the Second Hurdle race, for six months, and in conjunction with same, the appeal of Jockey McMullan against any disqualification, was heard also.
The evidence taken at Recfton by the Judicial Committee was put in; also supplementary statements by others. Tn addition, verbal evidence was given before the District Committee by Messrs C. IT. Gorton (stipendiary steward), Lahore (present at the start of the race), AA’ells (patrol steward), Hanlon (visiting owner who timed and watched the race). W. AfeTCcwlrv (trainer of Flying Master, "hich fell), R. ArcTxendry (owner of Flying Master). R. Ada in son (owner of l ontcrfiold and ]\r»irl)lc Slob eompoting in the race) and McMullan (rider of Tenterfield). The evidence was very lengthy, numerous questions being asked. At the close of the evidence the Committee deliberated, and it was resolved to dismiss the appeal of the Jockey, AlcAlullan. It was decided to confirm the disqualification of the five jockeys unplaced, and inerea.se the term of disqualification from six months to twelve months. Arising out of the statements and evidence given it was resolved iliai the -takes for the first and second horses in the race he with-held meantime by the Iheffon Jockey Club, and the owner of the winning ’horse. Abninu. he asked to reply by evidence given under statutory declaration to certain allegations made by two of tl' l ' witnesses, affecting the ease. The matter is to he further considered at next District Afeeting. H was resolved also lo call the rider A. (•. Campbell before Ihc Committee at next, District Afeeting to explain alleged conduct towards an owner on the Recfton racecourse.
