Some time ago the building of the Wellesley Club was entered by thieves, who looted a number of valuable silver enps and other trophies. X T o clue ns to the wlierenlxnits of the property was obtained until the police arrested two men in Wellington on January lltli. As a result of the investigation made since then, the police had reason to believe that the cups and trophies were at the bottom of the sea somewhere near the Miramar wharf, but the only way to prove the accuracy of the theory was to invoke the services of a diver. For this purpose the services of a diver. Mr MneLean of the Harbour Board Staff, were secured, and yesterday afternoon he went down, and after covering about an acre of the bottom of the harbour, was successful in bringing up the whole of the stolen property, all the cups being tied on a string. They had suffered little damage, save for a ! dents, which can be removed. The arrested men will appear before the Court this morning charged with breaking, entering and theft from the AVelleslev Club.
