After a day of alarm and excursions, the Government and the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies have patched up their differences, tho Committee agreeing to resume consideration of the scheme of Senator Doumer (the new Finance Minister). Senator Doumer and AT. Briand addressed the Committee. They stated that the Government were prepared to co-operate with the Committee in drafting a Bill to ho submitted to the Chamber, which contrary to expectations. does not meet before Tuesday. THE 'RHINELAND. BERLIN, Jan. IG. The Foreign Affairs Committee of the Reichstag has adopted a resolution declaring that tho retention of se-venty-five thousand occupation froops in the Rhineland would mean a serious disappointment of justifiable German expectations, and would be wholly incompatible with the political situation created l>v the signing of the Locarno agreements.
The committee requested the Government, in view of the impending political decisions of foreign Powers, to continue energetic efforts to bring about, a reduction of tho occupation forces to the strength of tho pre-war German garrison. The German Ambassadors in tho Allied Capitals have been instructed to ask the respective Governments for a statement of the mini her of troops tho Allies intended to retain in the occupied territory. Tho Ambassadors have been instructed to point out that the increase of the forces in tho second and third Rhineland zones from first zone will he regarded as a violation of the Versailles Treaty, and the so-call-ed gentlemen’s agreement of Locarno.
TT.S.A. AND LEAGUE. GENEJVA, Jan. IG. The United States Government has informed the League of Nations Secretariat that it is ready to communicate all tho treaties and international agreements concluded by it. Those treaties may he published in tho League's list on the understanding thatthey are not being; formally registered by the League in view of tiie fact that the United States is not a member of tho League.
