BOROUGH BYE-ELECTION

AIR J. LLOYD ELECTED.

The election to fill the vacancy on the Hokitika Borough Council caused hy the resignation of Air D. J. Evans, took place yesterday. There was not a great deal of interest shown in'the poll, though as the afternoon wore on a good many attended the Town Hall to vote, a total of 023 votes being cast. At 7.10 p.m. the returning officer (Air A. A. Andrewes) declared the result, there being a good number present. The result, was as follows: LLOYD, JOHN 363 EVANS. D. J 2.51 Informal 9 .Majority for Air Lloyd 112 At the call of Air AlcGavin three cheers were given for Air Llovd. Air AY. Jeffries, on behalf of Air Lloyd, who was absent ill in the North Island, extended; hearty (thanks for his election that day, which Air Lloyd woul have been glad to have done personally if lie had been awe.

Afr J. J. Alcintoxh on behalf of Air Evans, who wa.s also absent owing to i!lnsos thanked all who had supported Mr Evans, stating he had resigned as a protest as they all knew. Probably if Air Evans had keen present he would also have thanked all those also who had voted for the successful candidate. The proceedings then terminated.
