Mr Lang announced that the Now South Wales Government was shortly going 011 the London market for a loan of 11V millions sterling, mainly for the electrification of the suburban railways and the harbour bridge. ARAHUBA SALE YARDS. JEFFRIES AND CO.’S REPORT.

The first sale of the New Year at the above yards was held yesterday, the entry comprising 206 store sheep and lambs, 25 fat wethers, 6 pigs (weaners) and 65 head of cattle. COll- - interest was centred in the beef market and butchers were eager to see the opening prices for the New Year and as was to he expected, beef showed a slight falling off compared with the last sale of the old year. Notwithstanding vendors were well satisfied and in 110 case did ox beef go below 40s per hundred, the average all round being from 42s to 435, heifer beef ranging from 37s to 38s 6d. A good many old cows were submitted to competition, most of them lieing cast off milkers which were not by any means finished, the price for these ranging from 15s to 35s per bunded. The vealers yarded sold well. Messrs W, Jeffries and Co. sold as follows: On account of Leslie Stuart 25 fat wethers at 355, 14 do at 34s 6d. 40 s.lll. breeding ewes at, 28s. 20 do store wethers at 265, 140 ewes and lambs all told at 17s (Sil. Messrs M. Houston and Co. report: Our entry at the above sale yesterday consisted of 21 fat lambs, 117 fat sheep ami IS fat cattle. The usual buyers were in attendance and competition was 'good, although prices were much lower than those of the previous sale. Best ox and heifer beef realized from 35s to 38s per hundred, rougher from 30s to .‘s4s and cow beef from 25s upwards, according to quality.
