DUNEDIN. Jan. 11. The Dominion howling tournament, which commenced with the singles today, opened in fine weather, 256 plovers competing and occupying 16 full greens. The present champion, J. Best (Dunedin), and several ex-cham-pions are taking part. At the close of the day’s play, the following players were undefeated:— Tretheway (Caledonian). Wade (England), A lager of AYest-end (Auckland), Alelntyre (Hamilton), Ha.vnmn (Edgeware), Buchan (Balniacewen), Wright, Sohelirs and Anderson (Caledonian), Mair (Glasgow). Bentley (Dunedin), Clarke (Rock Nook). Foster (Caledonian). Brenner of Wostentl (Auckland). Malcolm (Greenock), Weir (Otago) Ellis (West-end Tiniaru). The games will he contmii ed to-morrow.
