FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE
RETORT TO IRRITATION TACTICS
HY TELEGRAPH —PEll PRESS ASSOCIATION.J CHRISTCHURCH, January 11. Notices were posted to-day in all the Canterbury Freezing Works stating that the rate of killing “ shall be four per hour.” The notices were posted by order of the companies.
On Friday afternoon and Saturday morning the slaughterman in (anterhury works reduced the killing rate to four per hour or thereabouts, which is rather less than half the normal killing rate. The notice, it is believed, was the result of events to-dny. It appears that the action of the butchers was not the same at all the works, and that there was at least some ground for a suspicion that an attempt was being made, hv giving different companies different treatment, to play off one company against another. No information whatever^ about the notices was posted, and it that the action of the companies was a con-, eerteil retort to the irritation tactics against some.
HAWKE'S BAY AIEN’S DEMANDS. NAPIER', January 11. A demand for an increase of half a crown per hundred made by the butchers in the Hawke’s Bay Freezing Works-, has been declined by the employers. A meeting of the men was held tonight. and it was resolved to take no further steps in the matter at present. AVith reference to the Canterbury dispute, it was decided to give financial assistance, if possible.
