Thrown fifteen feet across a road, two people narrowly escaped death, while several others were severely shaken as the result of a violent motor collision last night. 'The injured are:—■ Mrs Eliza Trenearv. 46. concussion, shock and cuts. Miss Maggie Carter, 19, concussion, shock, cuts and bruises. Alisa Elsie Treneary, IG, cuts and bruises. All's Treneary and .Miss Carter were admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, but Miss Treneary, after being treated as an outpatient was discharged. Mr Treneary, who was driving the ear, accelerated to avoid pedestrians crossing a street intersection and crashed into another car going the opposite way. Trenearv’s car was caught broadside oil and hurled against a telegraph post. Both cars were wrecked. Tnames of the. occupants of the “other car are unknown. BAIN AT CHRISTCHURCH. The following appointments in the l'ubiic Service are announced in it “Gazette” issued to-night:— W. D. Armit, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Taranaki. E. H. Farnie, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Gisborne. William Stewart, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Canteroury. Thomas Brook, Valuer-General. A YOUTH DROWNED. FISHERMAN’S ADVICE REJECTED WELLINGTON, Jan. 11. Peter Daley Brown, a youth of 17, was drowned at Island Bay. He went out fishing with a friend, Albert Hendrick, against the advice of local fishermen. The boat was upset. Hendrick was thrown on to sonic rocks and was rescued in a very exhausted state, but nothing more was seen of Brown. SUDDEN DEATH. WELLINGTON, Jan. 11. G. D. Hansford, of Wellington, of the well-known contracting, firm of Hansford and Mills, was taken suddenly ill on Saturday evening, and the doctors were actually consulting as to the advisability of an operation when he expired, apparently from acute peritonitis. He was 50 years of ago and leaves a widow and three children.
