IMPERIAL CONFERENCE.

CONSULTATION ON FACTS WANTED. TIIJC ■ ■ (IBSERVEB’S ” COMMENT. * strnlia & N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, Jan. S. With reference to the report that another Imperial Conference is likely to be called in 1926, it is learned that no date lias been fixed. It may be held before next year, but this will be a matter for the Cabinet to decide. in consultation with the Dominions and colonies. LONDON, January 9. The “ Observer ” in an editorial welcoming the Imperial Conference in October, says: “The Empire had a single policy when, for matters of common interest, it bad only one Government. Whitehall’s authority has long been shared. We are in a transitional stage which may last a long time. The future is still unsure. “ Meanwhile the chief need is not to invent constitutional solutions and theoretical puzzles, but to establish the habit and practice of consultation on facts. The conference this year is for no special purpose, except tile all-im-portant business of reviewing the past three years’ progress of the world.”

The “ Observer ” emphasises that since 1923 a new Europe has arisen: new problems have cropped up in Bussin. the Near. Middle and Far East, while the defence economies of the Empire complete the agenda.
