Some amended regulations under the | Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1908, have been made hv an Order-in-Coun-cil. One deals with the labelling of preservatives. There is a definition of milk bread as follows: —Milk oread shall he white bread, or bread to which skimmed milk, condensed, dried, or separated milk has been added. It shall otherwise conform to the standard of white bread. Icing sugar shall Ijc sugar to which a farinateous diluent substance has lieen added. Tt shall not contain any other added substance. It shall contain not more than two parts per centum of starch. Flavoured noil-fermented beverages, not otherwise standardised in the regulations, shall be composed of potable water, impregnated or not with carbon dioxide under pressure, and with one or more of the following:—The natural or concentrated juices of sound fruit or fruits, vegetable extracts, or infusions of citric acid, tartaric acid, harmless colouring matters, sugar to flavour.i The preservative substance (or a preparation of the preservative substance), sulphur dioxide may lie added in a proportion not exceeding one grain of sulphur dioxide to the pint, or alternatively salicylic acid may lie added in a proportion not exceeding one-half of one grain to the pint. Artificial non-fermented beverages shall be composed of potable water impregnated or not with carbon

dioxide under pressure, and combined with one or more of the following harmless flavourings:—The natural or concentrated juices of sound fruit or fruits, vegetable extracts or Infusions of citric acid, tartaric acid, harmless colouring matters, and sugar.
