EVERYBODYS PICTURES. “THE AIDE AL SINNER”—TO-NIGHT Side-stepping death by inches. That was Dorothy Dalton’s thrilling experience during the filming of certain scenes for her new Paramount picture, “The Aloral Sinner,” which will be shown at the Princess Theatre tonight. In a .sequence of this production. a gripping crook drama, adapted from, the stage success, “Leah Klesclina,” .Miss Dalton, in the title role of a clever girl apache of the Paris underworld, makes a hair-raising escape from the police by fleeing with stolen jewels over the roofs of the city. This was some stunt for the popular star to perform, for said roofs are not all that they appear in the finished picture—they are a maze of more or less rickety framework. During production, .Miss Dalton had scarcely sealed the roof of the second house when a loud crash reached her cars. She did not turn round hut kept right on going. Ihe roof in hack had given away, hut as the damaged part of the set was out ol the camera’s eye as it iollowed the star in her flight.- the scene did not register on the film. ."Seedless to say, Miss Dalton called for an intermission until she had sufficiently recovered from her fright. A fall would have meant serious injury and perhaps death. So there is one near tragedy in “ The .Moral Sinner ” that audiences will never even suspect. James Rennie has the leading mail’s role in the piclure. which was adapted to the screen by Clarkson Miller. Others in the supporting cast include Alphonse Etliier. Erode rick Lewis, AV. 1. Percival. Jau! .McAllister and Elorcnce Pair. Ralph luce directed.
On Monday next “Empty Hands.” a Paramount special will lie the big attraction. and on Wednesday next popular Tom Alix will appear in his latest entitled, “Teeth.”
VVIRTH BROS.’ CIRCUS. AVORT.HY TRADITIONS WORTHILY A 1 AIXTAfXED. On last New Year’s Day, AYirtli’s Circus entered upon the -ffitli year of its existence and when the lingo combination visits Hokitika on -Monday, January loth, for one night only, it will he readily recognised that the enviable reputation which it has built up during that period is being most capably maintained, the standard of entertainment presented being on ail even higher plane than over before. The young elephants which AYirtli Brothers imported from Burma a couple of years ago have made wonderful progress. A truly delightful act is that, in which Peggy and Jumbo are put through their puces by Aliss Eileen May. All three—to say nothing of the dog—enter into the spirit of their performance in a most captivating manner. Later the same pair of giant rubber dolls figure with several companions in a striking scene with Ihoir trainer. Captain Atoniicy. introducing Aliss Eileen Afay. lady elephant trainer. “The fight for the ling” provides thrills, comedy and pathos and is an astonishing example of the degree of intelligence possessed by those creatures. Thou tTiere are the Honey sisters, graceful and beautiful gymnasts. who appear in an act demanding an extraordinary amount of skill, strenglli and daring. .Miss Doris Honey also demonstrates her prowess as a trapeze artist, her performance in midair being something to marvel at. Torclli’s circus within a circus, with its ponies, dogs, monkeys and clowns—a thorough scream from start to finish. AYirtli. Bros.’ great hand is now in charge of TTughio McMahon, the Emperor of the cornet, champion of the world.
