CONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT’S BLUNDER.

Vice-Admiral Chambers, in a letter to tin' “ Daily Express” states: “It is universally conceded that in the Rattle of Jutland our fleet as regards shells, mines, torpedoes, and rangefinders, was inferior to that of the Germans. The most outstanding defect. and one causing the loss of many ships at Jutland, was the lack of a contrivance to isolate the magazines from the result of the fire on the gun position, ft was this, rather than superior German shooting, which prevented Jutland from being a complete British success, thus prolonging the war. and costing the country hundreds of millions sterling. and tens of thousands of lives. As far as the navy knows, nobody was brought to hook for this grave blunder by the Construction Department, who only protected the magazines nft<sr the Battle of Jutland.
