THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
Orit Ckickutehr In Austuai.ia
Though there has been a regrettable incident at YVaggn, there i.s the essence of .sportsmanship in the New Zealand cricket team’s present visit to Australia. Not for the pecuniary profit or for glory was the tour undertaken. hut for the improvement of cricket in the Dominion. From the comparatively slow wickets of New Zealand the team travelled to the fast, hard pitches of Australia and the brighter, lighter atmosphere, to gain cxporion:c against some of the world’s best players in their accustomed surroundings. There was no hope of winning matches with the powerful State elevens, there was simply the desire that the young,or members of the touring side, should improve their play under match conditions, and lie enabled, by prevent and example, to spread tbe gospel of better cricket among their fellows in the Dominion.—Christchurch “Sun.”
