HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT
"WELLINGTON. Jan. 5. The Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated December 31, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: BUTTER. Fair business has been done. Official quotations are not available. Present market prices are: New Zealand: Finest I7f).s to 171 s per cwt (Is 0,1 to Is Old per lb). Australian: 16-ls to 100 s per cwt (Is .I'd to Is ofjd per lb). Argentine: 140 s to 150 s per cut (Is 3d fo l.s Id per lb). Danish: l»0s to l/8s per ewt (Is Ojd to Is 7d per lb). CHEESE. The market is quiet. Present market prices for English finest farmers’ are unchanged. Canadian: Colored and white finest, 104 s to 100 s per ewt (lid to llfd per lb). Now Zealand: Colored and white. 98s per ewt (TOld per lb). Shipments of New Zealnd cheese arrived this week per s.s Dorset and Corinlliic.
HEMP. The Manilla market is firmer and the demand is good. “J” grade .TauuaryMarch .shipment sold up to £4O per ton and is now quoted by sellers at £45 10s per ton. Si.snl is firm. Number one Tanganyika Deeember-February is quoted at C-1 5 10s per ton. Spot sold at £-10 per ton. For New Zealand the market is firmer. Fair alloat sold at £37 10s per ton ; £4O os was bid for high fair; and £3l 10s is quoted for Deeember-February shipments, WOOL. Bradford was quiet over the holidays. The outlook for the New Year is considered more encouraging. Present quotations are:—Tops, 04s (warp) -Is 2d. fill’s (average) 4s, AG's 2s lOd ■ id’s 2s 3d, -llfis (prepared) Is lOd.
