ROUMANIAN THRONE

AUSTRALIAN AND N.l. CABLE ASSOCIATION ALL EUROPE AGOG. LONDON, Jan. 6. All Europe continues to be intrigued over the story of Prince Carol, and especially over a report that Princess Helen is journeying to Alilan for a final interview. Apartments have been reserved by her at the same hotel at which Prince Carol and Aldlle Dupes are staying. Lady Drummond-Hay, cabling to the “ Daily Express,” from Alilan, says:—‘‘Neither of the lovers can bo seen, hut I have received a message from Aldlle Lupescu, in her own forceful handwriting, stating: “I am not in a position to know the reasons which actuated the Prince in his action; I am in no way responsible therefore.” _ The Prince, Lady Drummond stales, wrote:—“l cannot tell what my plans are, for the good reason that I have got none.” Neither Carol nor Lupescu have left their rooms for a week, except to visit one another. Their only amusements wore a gramophone, cards, and newspapers. The woman Lupescu, is a divorcee. Her age is 28 years. She is of medium henglit, and is plump, thus confirming the theory that history has never been made by thin women. She is white skinned. She is not pretty, hut is attractive. She is the daughter of a Jewish commission agent in Bucharest. The Roumanian newspapers continue to emphasise the political aspect, but it becomes clearer that the woman Lupescu lias been the driving power of Carol’s impetuous action. VIENNA, Jan. 5. Reports from Bucharest state that Princess Helen declines to assent to a divorce from Prince Carol. She says that Carol is now swayed only by a passing infatuation. Nobody knows the real identity of Madame Lupescu. It is commonly reported that this name is but a pseudo- , nvm. Other reports say that she is already seeking a divorce from her husband in order to marry Carol.
