The secretary of the G.P.O. has received the following telegram from the superintendent at Apia:—“Noon —Just completed temporary repairs to the aerials brought down in the hurricane yesterday! Land wires are down and roads blocked. Tt; is understood tlie Lady Roberts is on a reef and other launches wrecked, but we have no authentic information yet. Tntuila reports the Government officer’s houses were blown down there.”
NELSON TRAGEDIES. NELSON. Jan. 2. Luev Olsen, a single woman, aged 23, met her death ill tragic circumstances at Thorpe yesterday, where she had accompanied a picnic party from town. While at n farm house she got into n cart standing m a shed and two of the party in a somt of fun got hold of the shafts and pulled the vehicle out, when tho deceased struck her bond against a beam imthe doorway and dislocated her neck. Miss OUen dving in a few minutes. At Hie inquest tho verdict was no eidental death. An clderlv man. William Lake, was found dead in a. city hotel yes morning:.
