WESTLAND TROTTING CLUB.

A SUCCESSFUL MEETING.

The Westland Trotting Club were favoured with a glorious day on Saturday for their summer meeting. There was only a fair attendance however, but the igoing was good and there were good fields and good trotting in every race. The various officials were in their places and the meeting passed off very enjoyable. There was only a fair amount of speculation, Mr H. Lynch and his staff handling .C 0,569 for the lay as against £7.805 last year. The dividends were fairly substantial, the best one being that on the locally owned horse Miss Chancellor in the opening event. After the drivers had weigh’d out after the race for the Westland Trotting Club Handicap the President Mr F. McGregor) presented to tbe ,wner of the winner (Mr O. Fairbnirn 1 : be handsome silver cup donated by the Hokitika Licensed Victuallers, congratulating him on bis win with Avenger. The driver (Mr ,7. I). Smith) was also presented with a gold mounted whip, donated by Mr A. Snell. The Municipal Band was present and played a pleasing programme. The meeting passing off without a liitch the Stipe; diary Steward (Mr Davey) having a couple of minor matters brought under his notice.
