DOG SAVES KAM.ILY. CHRISTCHURCH, December 28
Alarmed by the harking of a dog, .1. Hutton, his wife and two children, had iust time to escape in their night attire from a blazing house at Papaimi this morning. The place was burned to ashes. FATALITIES. DUNEDIN. Dee. 28. Monna Mantle, 20. and ITitikni Tiheno. Is. Maori lads, were drowned while bathing in the Waikouniti River on Saturday, The bodies were recovered.
John Alitchell, sheep farmer. Outram. was killed ill a motor accident by a deep stream yesterday. A passing motorist found the ear overturned and Alitchell underneath. Leonard I.efroy Grimshaw, AI. of Kaiiangata. was drowned near the mouth of the Afolynonx River on Saturday. With three companions, he was netting flounders. The net caught in a snag and deceased swam out to free it. He sank suddenly, supposedly through cramp. The body was recovered vosterdav.
M bile bathing on Ocean Reach on Sunday. Donald AlcDonald, draper’s assistant, was caught in the current and drowned. Desmond Harlnnd swam to the rescue, and had a hard fight in regaining the shore.
