STABBING AFFRAY. .MELBOURNE, December 21. Following an argument between three constables and a number ol men. mostly Italians, at North Melbourne, a fight ensued wherein one ol the constables, Clare, was fatally stabbed in the groin. An Italian named Dominic Codello was arrested after a chase and charged with murder. A blood-stained pocket knitc was found near the scene of the light Codello is alleged to hnvei made a statement to the isdice acknowledging the ownership of the knife.
MELBOURNE MURDER. .MELBOURNE, December 23. Henry Taeke, a rniddle-aged man. has been arrested at, Sorrento on the charge of murdering Mrs C'urrell, who was shot by a caller while standing at the door talking to him. The police surprised the man. who was practically covered in sand in which he had scooped a sleeping place, lie was in a very weak condition. His visits to the local store to buy food aroused suspicion and led to his arrest. Airs Curi'cll was formerly employed by Taeke, hut left him and started business. lie constantly worried her to return, and it is alleged her refusal ended in the shooting.
[Mrs CurrolL residing with her husband at St Kilda. was shot dead by a man who called at her home on the night of December 13. A quarrel followed a, conversation at the door, and the man fired, killing Mrs Cun-ell. The man also fired at her husband, who had seen the murder.]
