fin: railway authorities appear to ha-, ■■ granted a very liberal time-table over iho holiday season and travellers sh.iubi find their convenience well nvc. in this connection, before specially referring to the holiday time-ta Me. we would like to recite the lain improvements in the regular time-table, which have been in force for some lit tie iime. The revised service so far as it ailed, here and south to Ross, i- a great improvement. and the change is appreciated very generally. Tile train ruiitiim. is also much improved, except for the dejav caused by the extraordinary flood damage on the Otira line, for which. <■ course, the railway authorities were not responsible. licit their woik ii. making the best arrangements po.—dblc to get traffic through and in arranging connections with other train services, appears to have been most considerate, and the consideration is being very favorably coiiiineiUed upon. As regards the holiday .service. we would tike to
appreciate again the service made available to reach l.ake Alabina pur over the holidays. The concession is one which was asked for in the interests of picnic parties, and we hope while it is current, the enterprise ol the Department will be justilied. Lake .Mahinapua is an ideal picnic resort foi large or small gatherings, and With the facilities to reach so attractive a rendezvous, it is to be hoped it will bwell patronised. There are good train services on the Westland section, cov-e-ring all sporting .gatherings, and the Department should reap the reward its enterprise deserves. The.* daily connection between the Coast and Canterbury is also io be appreciated. So great a convenience removes the reproach ol isolation which is so often referred 10. But we notice in advertising the service the !{;iilwny Department continues the misleading mistake made in the past, to which vve have referred on previous occasions. The service is still called tbe C liristclmreh-Crcviuuui !i servo
This is quite misleading to i-'asl t oasters unaware of the geography of the Coast, for all people do not know that Hokitika, Doss. Beefioti altd even Westport life served liv iho -nine service as serves (Ireymotilh. Ii would be clearer to the travelling public if the sections involved were termed the Christehurch-Westland service, or the Christchurch-West (oast train service.
