CRICKET.
[Australia & N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON, December 22. As regards the hitherto frequent use of undersized balls, the Marylehone Cricket Club has instructed umpires in future to see that the weights and dimensions thereof are correct. The makers of cricket halls have agreed to stamp a guarantee on them. A meeting of first class captains decided to draw the attention of umpires to the fact that in their opinion, games after rain, are not resumed as soon as possible, and secondly that the practice of howlers in lifting the seam of the hall is illegal. It transpires that over sixteen thousand candidates are eligible tor ordinary membership in the Marylehone Club. N.Z. v. BALLARAT. MELBOURNE, Dee. 24. The New Zealanders in the match against Ballarat at Ballarat halted first and compiled 335 for six wickets, of which Lowry made 140 and Oliver 104. Both hatters were in excellent form, played sparkling cricket and gave the local exponents a wonderful exhibition of batting. The Ballarat team were dismissed for 50, the visitors’ howling demoralising them. Cunningham secured 6 for 19 and Blunt 3 for 3.
