Me added that lie did not think there was any public, private. Dominion or foreign station at present operating in England. WIRELESS STRIKE. LONDON. Deeemlier 22. In the House of Commons Sir Cunliffe Lister stated five hundred ships, whereof forty-seven were passenger carriers, sailed without wireless operators since 26th. November. The Board of Trade was maintaining complete impartiality. Steel-Maitland said the Ministry of Labour had arranged for a conference between the two sides to-day. COMMONS PROROGUED. THE KING’S SPEECH. LONDON, December 22. The King, in a. speech at the prorogation of Parliament, said it had been a solace in his grief at his beloved mother’s death to receive from all conditions and classes in all parts of tho Dominions and foreign countries touching assurances of sympathy. The King, continuing, said:—“ I am happy at the welcome to the Prince of Wales on his return from his tour and I am proud to think the visit has served to deepen the affection uniting my people. T trust the Locarno Pact will he, not only a foundation of lasting peace, hut the beginning of friendly
co-operation, which cannot fail to benefit the whole world. My heartfelt prayer is that the Irish agreement shall advance co-operation and strengthen goodwill in Ireland. I express my gratitude to all throughout the Empire who co-operated in connection with the Wembley Exhibition and am sure the increased knowledge it has brought of the resources and activities of my people will have lasting and beneficial results. The Government is closely considering further measures for the development of Empire trade.”
